Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Develops and supports moderately complex production control systems which are used to control plant, refrigeration, and water treatment processes within Publix Industrial Operations.
  • Designs, develops, tests, documents, optimizes and implements moderately complex applications for PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) and vision systems which are used to monitor and control stand-alone production equipment, entire production lines, and/or industrial utilities systems.
  • Ensures that all Industrial Operations' automation systems comply with corporate and Industrial Operations, IT and automation standards.
  • Develops automation solutions using standard tools such as Structured Query Language (SQL), iFix, RSLogix, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and others.
  • Analyzes production processes, identifies and makes recommendations for automation system upgrades and associated process enhancements to improve efficiency, increase capacity, improve associate safety, improve food safety, support sustainability and/or reduce labor.
  • Gathers requirements for automation business process improvements.
  • Identifies and resolves root causes of problems with automation systems.
  • Designs, develops, implements, automates and maintains production reporting systems.
  • Develops and delivers training on automation skills and on operating procedures for automation systems.

Industrial Operations Software Engineer- Automation - Lakeland

Develops and supports moderately complex production control systems which are used to control plant, refrigeration, and water treatment processes within Publix Industrial Operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience supporting automation systems at Publix
  • Two years of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with both HMI (i.e. iFix or Wonderware or RSView) and ladder logic (i.e. RSLogix or Siemens Step 7 or DirectSOFT5)
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory
  • Strong knowledge of Publix Manufacturing operational processes
  • Knowledge of Publix department structure
  • Knowledge of Publix improvement methodologies for facilitating improvement efforts
  • Knowledge of all plant GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Knowledge of Publix Industrial Operations business objectives and plans
  • Strong knowledge of Publix control systems
  • Knowledge of Publix corporate and Industrial Operations, IT and automation standards and policies that must be upheld.

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month's extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
