Full Job Description

Modeling And Simulation Engineer

The Force & Opaque Touch and Sensing team develops cutting-edge sensing solutions and technologies that are central to Apple's products, including the MacBook Pro, Mac Book Air, iPhone Camera Control, AirPods Pro, Apple Pencil, HomePod, Apple TV Siri Remote, Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad. You will be part of a team developing innovative concepts for products used by millions of people. The position involves electrostatics and multiphysics modeling, sensor design and system-level performance analysis.

As a modeling and simulation engineer focused on developing innovative sensor technologies, you will design and optimize touch and force sensors through comprehensive design analysis, modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. This role centers on leveraging advanced simulation techniques and analytical modeling to predict touch and force sensor behavior, optimize user interaction response, and ensure robust performance across diverse operating conditions. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, mechanical designers, material scientists, and sensor algorithms engineers to translate modeling insights into manufacturable sensor solutions that meet stringent performance requirements while driving next-generation touch and force sensing capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Drive new sensor technology initiatives
  • Conduct feasibility analysis, material stack up optimization, and sensor element design
  • Model & simulate sensor designs to determine the response of those designs to user interaction
  • Develop analytical or AI-driven models for sensor performance prediction, accounting for manufacturing tolerances and environmental variations
  • Perform circuit modeling, statistical analysis, and design optimization with system integration considerations

  • Perform rigorous design reviews with internal teams and external vendors
  • Document sensor specification development and create conceptual frameworks
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Proficient in using commercial MCAD, ECAD and multiphysics FEA software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in electrostatics and dielectric materials.
  • Experience with FEA modeling tools and understanding of the underlying governing equations.
  • Direct experience with COMSOL (or equivalent) FEA simulation tools.
  • Understanding of material behavior and how it impacts sensor performance due to thermal, humidity, electromagnetic and mechanical effects. Multiphysics modeling background to incorporate these effects is a plus.
  • Good understanding of electrical circuits. Experience with touch and force sensor design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as NX is a plus.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to facilitate cross-functional discussion is extremely important.
