Full Job Description

RealityKit Video Pipeline Engineer

Shape the future of spatial computing by building revolutionary rendering technologies for Apple Vision Pro and next-generation vision products. As part of the RealityKit team, you'll architect and optimize cutting-edge systems that bring spatial media to life, transforming how millions experience immersive photos, videos, and 3D content in visionOS. Push the boundaries of real-time rendering to deliver breathtaking spatial experiences.

You'll develop high-performance rendering pipelines that seamlessly blend digital content with the physical world, optimize GPU workloads for unprecedented visual fidelity, and pioneer new techniques for spatial video playback and 3D media presentation. Your work will directly impact how users capture memories, consume entertainment, and interact with spatial content across Apple's vision ecosystem. Join a world-class team defining the next era of computing. Every optimization you craft, every rendering technique you innovate, and every frame you perfect will empower developers and delight users worldwide. This is your opportunity to work at the intersection of graphics, media, and spatial computing, building technology that doesn't just render pixels, but creates presence.

As a Video Pipeline Engineer on the RealityKit team, you'll:
  • Architect and implement high-performance rendering systems that power immersive spatial media experiences across visionOS and Apple Vision Pro.
  • Develop cutting-edge GPU pipelines for spatial photo and video playback.
  • Optimize real-time rendering of 3D content with advanced techniques like foveated rendering and temporal reprojection.
  • Collaborate closely with media frameworks, Metal, and hardware teams to maximize visual quality while maintaining smooth performance.
  • Tackle complex challenges like efficient multi-view rendering and seamless integration of spatial media with virtual content.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement high-performance rendering pipelines for spatial photos, videos, and 3D media in RealityKit.
  • Optimize GPU shaders and rendering algorithms to achieve exceptional visual quality and frame rates on Apple silicon.
  • Build intuitive APIs that enable developers to seamlessly integrate spatial media into visionOS applications.
  • Profile and debug complex rendering issues across the graphics stack using Instruments and GPU debugging tools.
  • Prototype innovative rendering features for future vision products and evaluate emerging graphics technologies.
  • Write comprehensive unit tests and performance benchmarks to ensure rendering quality and stability.
  • Contribute to technical specifications and documentation for spatial media rendering capabilities.
  • Mentor engineers and conduct code reviews to maintain exceptional engineering standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in video rendering, media playback systems, or real-time graphics programming.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and shader programming languages (Metal Shading Language, GLSL, or HLSL).
  • Solid understanding of modern graphics APIs (Metal, Vulkan, or DirectX 12) and GPU architecture.
  • Understanding of GPU texture management and efficient frame buffer handling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex rendering issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience shipping video rendering features in high-profile consumer products.
  • Expert knowledge of HDR video formats, wide color gamut workflows, and advanced tone mapping techniques.
  • Deep experience with media frameworks such as AVFoundation, Core Media, or video encoding/decoding APIs.
  • Proven track record optimizing video rendering for Apple silicon and GPU architectures.
  • Experience with stereoscopic or multi-view video rendering for VR/AR applications.
  • Knowledge of video codecs, color spaces, and video decoding pipelines.
  • Experience developing video rendering or playback systems with frame synchronization.
  • Knowledge of spatial video formats, immersive media standards, and 360-degree video playback.
  • Familiarity with real-time compositing, visual effects, and post-processing pipelines.
  • Published research or patents in video rendering, computational photography, or graphics.
  • Experience with performance profiling tools like Instruments, RenderDoc, or similar GPU debuggers.
