Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Work with key stakeholders to define and execute the technical roadmap for Cloud Networking Observability & Telemetry, encompassing metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, and visualization solutions.
  • Lead the execution of engineering initiatives by guiding sprint planning, prioritization, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to ensure the timely and effective delivery of observability features and platforms.
  • Set the technical direction for the team by actively participating in architectural design and rigorous code reviews, fostering a high standard of engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with technical program managers, senior engineers, and customer teams to deliver robust, end-to-end observability solutions that span and support multiple product organizations.
  • Partner with the recruiting team to identify, attract, and hire exceptional engineering talent, contributing to the growth of a world-class development team.
  • Manage and mentor team members through regular one-on-one meetings, career development planning, and performance evaluations, fostering a supportive and high-performing environment.
  • Drive the execution and delivery of new features and iterative improvements for internal stakeholders on a regular cadence, enhancing our ability to understand and react to the state of cloud networking.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by coaching engineers, encouraging innovation, and supporting professional growth.

The Apple Cloud Networking team builds and operates software-defined network platforms that work at scale to deliver a multi-cloud network and security with a global footprint. We are a fast-moving team at the forefront of crafting Apple's hybrid cloud network infrastructure, which fuels Apple's services, including iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps. We are seeking a seasoned, visionary Engineering Manager to lead and expand a diverse team of highly skilled engineers focused on advancing observability, monitoring, and telemetry capabilities for Apple's critical cloud networking infrastructure. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams across Apple to deliver the foundational insights and tools that enable operational excellence, proactive issue detection, and performance optimization for our global services.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development.
  • 6+ years of experience in a technical leadership position, including responsibilities for people management.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise with the ability to engage in deep technical discussions to support sound decision-making in the observability and monitoring domain.
  • Proven track record in designing and building highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems, ideally within an observability or data pipeline context.
  • Solid experience with observability principles, telemetry data (metrics, logs, traces), and monitoring tools.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and software-defined networking (SDN), with a deep appreciation for how to effectively observe and monitor these complex systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad experience in designing and developing robust architectures for data collection, processing, or visualization.
  • Expert knowledge of modern observability practices.
  • Deep knowledge of logs, metrics, traces, and alerts, and how to use this data to help developers and operators make quick decisions.
  • Experience with container deployment and orchestration technologies at scale, including service discovery, deployments, monitoring, and load balancing.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $228,100 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses including tuition. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation.
