Hiring Steps

1

Sign up in the Uber Driver app or on the Uber website

You start by creating an account, entering your personal information, choosing your city, and selecting how you want to drive (your own vehicle or a rental partner).

2

Upload required documents (reviewed in ~24 hours)

Uber requires the following documents before activation: * Valid U.S. driver's license * Vehicle registration * Insurance documents * A clear photo of your vehicle * (In some cities) proof of residency According to Uber, documents are usually reviewed within 24 hours.

3

Vehicle eligibility (varies by city)

Vehicle requirements depend on where you drive. Most cities require: * A 4-door, 5-seat vehicle * A model year that meets local minimum requirements * A clean and safe interior * A passed vehicle inspection (in-person or virtual) Some states require completing a state-approved vehicle inspection before activation.

4

Background check (final step before activation)

Uber uses Checkr to run: * A criminal background check * A driving record (MVR) check This process can take: * Most commonly: 2–5 days * Sometimes: up to 7–10 days depending on state court processing times Drivers cannot go online until the background check clears.

5

Activation

Once your documents and background check are approved, your driver account is activated. You can immediately log in to the Driver app and begin accepting ride requests.
