Principal, Product Manager

1345 Crossman Ave Sunnyvale, CA 94089-1114 R-2403810 $143,000 - $286,000/yr Regular/ Permanent Salaried

Position Summary...
We are seeking a Principal Product Manager (PPM) for Supplier APIs to lead the strategy, evolution, and adoption of a large-scale API ecosystem that underpins critical internal and external integrations. This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping how APIs are designed, governed, and consumed across the organization. You will operate as a senior individual contributor, influencing multiple product domains and technology teams, and setting the bar for API product excellence.

What You'll Do...
About the Role
  • Define and own the long-term vision, principles, and roadmap for the Supplier API and broader connected ecosystem, collaborating with other domain leaders for a holistic and best-in-class experience for our external partners
  • Establish organization-wide standards for API design, lifecycle management, and backward compatibility
  • Identify strategic opportunities where APIs can unlock reuse, scale, and faster product delivery and business impact

Product Leadership & Execution
  • Own product definition for foundational API capabilities across multiple domains
  • Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and security to deliver scalable, resilient APIs
  • Drive prioritization decisions that balance platform health, developer needs, and business outcomes

Developer Experience (DX)
  • Champion developers as primary users both internal and external
  • Improve API usability through clear contracts, documentation, tooling, and onboarding experiences
  • Reduce time-to-value for API consumers and improve integration success rates

Platform Governance & Enablement
  • Define standards and best practices for API consistency, security, and access control
  • Guide versioning, deprecation, and change management strategies
  • Influence teams toward platform-first and reuse-oriented solutions

Cross-Functional Influence & Thought Leadership
  • Operate as the domain expert and trusted advisor to senior product, engineering, and business leaders
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to product managers on API and platform best practices
  • Represent the supplier API platform in executive forums and strategic planning discussions

Measurement & Communication
  • Define and track success metrics for API adoption, reliability, and developer satisfaction
  • Translate technical platform investments into clear business value narratives
  • Communicate roadmap, progress, and risks to executive stakeholders

What Success Looks Like...
A Best-in-Class Supplier API Experience:
  • Suppliers and partners experience Walmart's APIs as a cohesive, intuitive, and dependable extension of our platform, regardless of domain or integration method. APIs feel intentionally designed, consistent, and easy to work with earning trust as the preferred way to integrate and automate at scale.

A Unified, End-to-End Platform Vision Brought to Life
  • A clear API vision and strategy is not only defined, but realized through execution, aligning teams around a shared direction while translating strategy into tangible improvements suppliers can feel. The ecosystem evolves deliberately rather than incrementally or inconsistently.

Seamless Integration Across Internal Teams and External Partners
  • Internal product teams and external partners build against APIs that are connected, predictable, and interoperable, reducing friction at integration boundaries. APIs act as a unifying layer that enables faster delivery, smoother partnerships, and easier extension of core capabilities.

APIs as a Strategic Growth and Scale Lever
  • APIs are recognized and managed as long-term strategic assets, enabling new capabilities, automation, and partnerships without introducing fragility. The platform scales confidently as volume, complexity, and use cases expand.
