Associate Merchant

Salary Range: $64,000 - $70,500 per year

This is a Boston based opportunity with a 4 day in office expectation (Monday - Thursday) with 1 day remote (Friday).

Wayfair is continuing to expand our commitment to hiring and supporting talent early in their careers, focusing on filling opportunities with recent graduates who have 0-3 years of work experience. We are continually recruiting candidates for this position on a rolling basis as we have a high volume of openings that become available.

Who We Are

The Associate Merchant is a merchandising role responsible for shaping and maintaining a high-performing assortment within assigned categories. This role applies strong category knowledge and disciplined assortment planning to deliver the right balance of style, quality, sourcing, timing, and price in alignment with Wayfair's Curated Merchandising strategy.

The Associate Merchant will own a clearly defined category and is accountable for day-to-day assortment health. They partner with vendors to evaluate selection opportunities, contribute to cost and pricing guardrail discussions, and build productive supplier relationships with increasing independence. Through regular analysis of key performance metrics, including sales, margin, conversion, and availability, they inform curation decisions, provide meaningful input into category plans, and support quality audits and assortment governance with clear rationale.

Operating with a high degree of collaboration and judgment, the Associate Merchant works closely with their manager and cross-functional partners to surface insights, proactively flag risks, and drive execution of their assortment. Through this work, Associates demonstrate growing ownership, sound omni-channel commercial decision-making, and a consistent ability to translate data into action, directly impacting Wayfair's product offering, customer experience, and performance.

Core Responsibilities
  • Master the Category: Build foundational subject-matter expertise in assigned category/class, including product attributes, materials, pricing tiers, and customer needs. Monitor competitive assortments, pricing, and key product stories. Use internal tools to identify assortment gaps, quality issues, or performance risks.
  • Support Assortment Strategy & Selection: Execute against defined assortment strategies. Identify products for line plans. Pull and review performance reporting regularly to flag underperforming SKUs and demand gaps. Support assortment governance.
  • Enable Success of Core Programs & Hero Items: Ensure key recipe elements (imagery, content, specs, availability) are accurate for priority SKUs. Monitor SKU health. Support exposure and GTM readiness.
  • Supplier & Cross-Functional Support: Develop a foundational understanding of supplier capabilities. Prepare for and participate in supplier meetings. Own meeting logistics and action tracking.
  • Own Performance Tracking: Build fluency in core KPIs. Review dashboards and merchant reports to identify trends. Support action plans based on manager direction.
  • Team & Culture: Contribute positively to team culture. Participate in meetings. Share learnings. Seek feedback and demonstrate progress.

What You'll Need
  • 0-3 years of transferable experience in a corporate environment, including internship and co-op experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A strong interest in emerging technology and the ability to integrate generative AI tools (e.g. Gemini) into daily tasks to drive efficiencies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by Wayfair now or in the future. Visa sponsorship includes the following work visas: STEM OPT EAD, H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, O-1, J-1, or TN.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, SQL or GBQ, and data visualization tools such as Google Data Studio (Looker, Tableau, or PowerBI).
  • 02 years of experience in merchandising, buying, retail, or a related analytical role.
  • Strong interest in product, retail, and customer behavior.
  • Comfort working with data, dashboards, and performance reporting.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset.
