Sr. Retail Designer, Home Renovation
The hourly rate is $24.00/hr. and is a fixed entry rate for this position, which applies to all new hires. While our system may display a pay range, this role's starting rate is non-negotiable. Future pay increases are determined by performance, growth, and time in role, in accordance with our compensation policy.

Overview: As a Sr. Retail Designer, Home Renovation, you help customers bring their dream spaces to life through expert design and product knowledge. Whether working with a DIY homeowner or a seasoned contractor, you guide them through every step of their renovation journey with confidence and care. From mood boards and material selection to 3D renderings and full project support, you deliver an experience that builds trust and lasting results.

You'll draw on deep knowledge of Wayfair's extensive assortment across tile, flooring, kitchen, bath, plumbing, and more. You'll provide tailored recommendations that align with customer budgets, timelines, and design preferences. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and brings a strong mix of creative problem-solving, design expertise, and sales acumen.

What Does A Home Renovation Designer Do?
  • Engage and Inspire Customers: Build meaningful relationships with DIY homeowners and contractors by delivering personalized, friendly consultations in-store, in-home, and virtually. Help customers clarify their renovation vision and guide them with confidence.

  • Lead End-to-End Projects: Manage renovation journeys from concept to completion. You'll support product selection, develop functional mood boards and floor plans, and guide customers through purchasing and post-order needs.

  • Educate on Renovation Solutions: Act as a trusted resource for Wayfair's full renovation assortment including tile, flooring, kitchen, bath, and plumbing. Offer tailored solutions that align with each customer's goals, space, and budget.

  • Use Design and Sales Tools: Leverage your knowledge of design platforms, visual renderings, and sales data to deliver clear, compelling presentations that move projects forward and support store goals.

  • Adapt with Agility: Stay focused and energized in a dynamic setting with constantly evolving customer needs, product selections, and promotional strategies.

  • Always Be Selling (ABS): Treat every consultation as a chance to build rapport, expand your pipeline, and convert interest into action. You're proactive in finding opportunities to grow sales.

  • Support Store Success: Pitch in across departments when needed. From resetting a floor set to helping with inventory, you'll bring a team-first attitude and contribute to a seamless in-store experience.


You'll Thrive in this Role if You Have:
  • Design Experience: 3+ years of experience in kitchen, bath, or renovation design with strong skills in spatial planning, material selection, and staying current with trends.

  • Sales Mindset: Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals. Previous experience as a trainer or leader in a retail setting is a plus.

  • Technical Know-How: Comfortable using design platforms and tools like SketchUp, Design Files, Floorplanner, Icovia, and CRM/POS systems such as Salesforce.

  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet customer and business needs.

  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree or college diploma equivalent is preferred.

  • Leadership Potential: Prior experience coaching or mentoring others in a retail or design setting is valued.

  • Certifications (Preferred): Recognized credentials from organizations such as the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), The Kitchen and Bath Design Institute (KBDI), etc.

  • Product Expertise: Broad knowledge across renovation categories and a passion for helping customers bring their ideas to life with confidence and style.

  • Team-Oriented: A proven collaborator with a strong desire to contribute to shared success and support the growth of those around you.

  • Strong Organization & Communication: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to be highly effective in written and verbal communications.


Additional Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.

  • Mobility & Movement: Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day.

  • Lifting Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently regularly. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment.

  • Vision Requirements: Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Temperature Flexibility: Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions.

  • Noise Tolerance: Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity.

  • Safety Awareness: Minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards; must adhere to all safety protocols.
