You will also partner closely with the Store Manager and Talent Business Partner to maintain accurate people records, support performance processes, and create an engaging, inclusive environment for our frontline associates.

This role blends talent coordination, scheduling expertise, thoughtful communication, and people leadership to create a smooth experience for every associate who walks through our doors. If you love helping teams thrive, keeping operations organized, and building a culture people love to be part of, this is the role for you.

What Does an Assistant Store Manager of People Operations Do?

  • Maintain Accurate People Data: Update associate availability and frontline records in Workday, ensuring data integrity and quick access for people managers.
  • Drive Engagement & Recognition: Coordinate service awards, team events, town halls, and inclusive cultural moments. Maintain a welcoming break room, training room, and communication board spaces.
  • Support Talent Processes: Assist with frontline performance reviews, conduct and attendance tracking, and succession planning. Escalate complex matters to the Talent Business Partner.
  • Own Frontline Staffing Logistics: Open, manage, and close job requisitions, post roles, coordinate interviews, welcome candidates, validate I-9s, and assist with job offer processes.
  • Coordinate New Hire Orientation & Training: Facilitate orientation, assign coaches and training plans, schedule learning, and track completion in the LMS.
  • Build a Strong People Plan: Partner with store leadership to identify high potential talent, support development plans, and ensure follow up actions are completed.
  • Partner Across People Teams: Work with Store Manager, Department Managers, Talent Business Partners, and Talent Acquisition to support staffing, mobility processes, and headcount planning.
  • Monitor Compliance & Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality, support accurate recordkeeping, and ensure Talent policies and processes are followed consistently.

You'll Thrive in This Role if You Have:
  • Experience Growing Teams: Required 2+ years of HR generalist or people leadership experience within a frontline workforce environment, and a strong preference for retail.
  • Knowledge of Employment Practices: Working knowledge of US employment law and the ability to support managers through policy-aligned processes.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear, confident, and consistent communication across written, verbal, and digital channels.
  • Ability to Influence & Partner: Comfortable advising leaders and working collaboratively with multiple cross-functional partners.
  • High Trust & Discretion: Proven ability to manage confidential information with care.
  • Organizational Agility: Skilled at balancing multiple projects, shifting priorities, and staying ahead of deadlines.
  • Technical Comfort: Familiar with Google Suite, mobile business tools, and general HR or scheduling systems.
  • A Solid Educational Foundation: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs evolve.

Additional Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.
  • Mobility & Movement: Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day.
  • Lifting Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment.
  • Vision Requirements: Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Temperature Flexibility: Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions.
  • Noise Tolerance: Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity.
  • Safety Awareness: Minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards; must adhere to all safety protocols.
