Planning Manager Specialty Retail Brands

The Planning Manager Specialty Retail Brands is responsible for leading the Planning & Allocation strategy across a portfolio of specialty retail brands. This role oversees end-to-end inventory planning, assortment strategy, and in-season performance management to drive sales, margin, and healthy inventory productivity across physical retail locations.

This leader partners closely with Merchandising, Supplier Inventory Management (SIM), Physical Retail Operations, and Finance to ensure the right product is in the right store at the right time while building scalable processes that support growth across emerging specialty brands.

What You'll Own
1. Strategic Inventory & Assortment Planning
  • Develop and lead brand-level inventory strategies aligned to financial targets (sales, margin, turn, in-stock, and weeks of supply).
  • Translate merchant assortment vision into actionable forecast quantities and store-level allocation strategies.
  • Partner with Merchandising to influence assortment decisions based on in-depth performance analytics, supplier status and inventory learnings.
  • Ensure new store openings and brand expansions are planned for effectively (e.g., manage consolidator relationship, align on efficient load-in strategy, etc.) and supported with appropriate assortment, inventory and allocation strategies.
2. In-Season Performance & Optimization
  • Monitor business performance across brands and stores, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Drive in-season reallocation, flow adjustments and exit strategies to maximize sell-through and minimize aged inventory.
  • Own reporting and executive recaps for specialty brands, clearly articulating risks, actions, and financial impact.
  • Lead cross-functional action plans for underperforming categories, ensuring accountability and follow-through.
3. Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Serve as the primary Planning partner for specialty retail brand leaders.
  • Collaborate with SIM to optimize replenishment strategies, lead times and inventory flow.
  • Partner with Physical Retail Ops to align on capacity constraints, store feedback and operational readiness.
  • Work with Finance to align on stocking open to buy targets and FRM forecasting.
4. Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and develop a team of planners and allocators.
  • Set clear performance expectations and elevate analytical rigor and financial acumen across the team.
  • Build scalable planning processes that support multi-brand growth.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and data-driven decision-making.
5. Process & Systems Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve allocation logic, replenishment strategies and reporting automation.
  • Partner with Analytics and Tech to enhance planning tools and forecasting accuracy.
  • Drive standardization where appropriate while allowing flexibility for brand differentiation.
What We're Looking For
  • 610+ years of experience in retail planning, inventory management, or allocation (multi-store physical retail experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to connect inventory decisions to P&L impact.
  • Advanced analytical skills with comfort navigating large datasets and planning tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional partners, including Merchandising and Operations.
  • Experience supporting specialty or emerging retail brands preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
