AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them. You'd work with some of the best and brightest engineers in the industry, while also developing your skills and furthering your career within one of the most innovative and progressive technology companies anywhere.

Our services operate at large scale with workloads critical to national security. These mission-critical cloud computing solutions require a relentless focus on operational excellence. Given the national security implications of our services, a deep passion for delivering reliable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure is essential. You will share big ideas and execute to deliver the next big innovations at rapid pace. You are a believer in the Dev-Ops model of service engineering, and you are excited to run operations in an environment where developers don't toss problems over the wall but solve them. Finally, with your strong ownership bias, you have an infectious desire to continually improve how things are done.

We need a technical, detail-oriented Engineers focused on operational excellence to driving best practices through the business. You will excel at hiring, training and developing Engineers and developing novel systems for specific toil reduction efforts. You will grow fellow engineers in your organization and lead a charter that grows as your organization grows.

Key job responsibilities include:

• Delivering technology solutions which improve engineering and operational processes within your team, and work to apply those improvements to partner teams.
• Being a technical leader for your team; learning to force multiply through others.
• Demonstrating ownership of your team's systems, proactively identifying and mitigating extant risks and deficiencies. Working to reduce complexity and enable greater agility for your team and other teams in your organization.
• Understanding how your team's systems interact with systems owned by others and working to improve consistency and integration between them.
• Thinking in terms of architecture, not just components or services, and showing good judgement when making trade-offs between tactical and strategic concerns at team or service level. Your work on your team's architecture yields significant resilience, performance or business value.
• Actively participating in reviews of systems owned by partner teams.
• Consistently working backwards from the customer experience to ensure correct solutions are built and incorrect ones are not.
• Being an effective communicator. When disagreements occur, you harmonize discordant views and build consensus amongst peers across teams.

• You actively hire and develop others by leveraging your expertise, coaching and mentoring in your organization.
• You influence your team's technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and approach.
• You lead reviews of architecture, design, operations, process, or post-incident analysis for your team.
• You lead the design, implementation and successful delivery of technical solutions for complex problems.

About the team:
Region Reliability's Engineering (RRE) mission is to automate "Keeping the Lights On" work across US ADCs. RRE will drive greater consistency in operational practices across organizations, reducing duplicative efforts and refining and adopting best practices more quickly.
