Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Provides excellent customer service, greets and assists customers
- Operates cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer's purchase, collects payment from customers and makes change, bags merchandise, and assists customers with merchandise as necessary
- Follows Company merchandise processes; unpack, stock, restock, and rotate merchandise on shelves and build merchandise displays
- Cleans the store, take out trash, dust and mop store floors, clean restroom and receiving room, and help set up sidewalk displays
- Assists in implementation and maintenance of planograms
- Opens and closes the store under specific direction of the Store Manager
- Performs additional duties typically performed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, in their absence

- Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats, and rolltainers.
- Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing using ladder up to heights of six feet.
- Regular driving own vehicle to attend meetings, to other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
- Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to hazardous cleaning solutions.
- Occasional exposure to slippery floor surfaces.
- May be exposed to extreme cold in freezers.
- Proficient interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Ability to perform cash register functions.
- Knowledge of and willingness to comply with Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures manual, Employee Handbook, and Company communications.
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and six months of supervisory experience (or related experience/training) preferred.
- Ability to attain required certifications in food handling, if applicable (for Market stores).
- License/Certification Required: Valid Driver's License
