Business Development Manager I
Responsible for all business development activity within specified divisions/product lines. We are looking for:
  • A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
  • 3-4 years of related experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in leadership
  • Experience in retail operations, distribution, and/or supply chain
  • Experience successfully working complex issues with senior management

What is the work? Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities:
  • BDM I is an intermediate level position
  • Develops 5-year business plan on key categories
  • Effectively understands customer shopping behaviors, preferences, and trends
  • Leads and models an enthusiastic and courageous approach to problem solving
  • Works on new product ideas
  • Creates strategies to differentiate H-E-B from competition and improve customer loyalty including new ideas & products
  • Effective in managing cost components on key items
  • Proactively studies their business
  • Builds collaborative relationships with suppliers
  • Creates tailored assortment and merchandising plans for execution
  • Leads cross-functional teams across Pricing, Retailing Services, Supply Chain, Own Brand, Sourcing, Shelf Edge, Product Information, and other related areas.
  • Develops pricing and promotion strategies
  • Participates in corporate promotions
  • Oversees and works collaboratively with Supply Chain Partners on the execution of all aspects of supply chain
  • Communicates effectively with all other functional departments (CoEs)
  • Works within work processes and influences improvements
  • Understands complexities of all aspects of product/commodity ('Seed to Stomach' in applicable categories)
  • Adapts to change and exudes a positive attitude with a willingness to take on new opportunities.
  • Clearly behaves in ways that reflect a leader worth following
  • Ensuring products are available at the right time in the right assortment and quantities

Key Competencies preferred:
  • Strong understanding of negotiation principles
  • Ability to analyze key information to create business plans
  • Strong verbal / written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects / tasks; attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems and software
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to make key decisions daily
  • Ability to lead a collaborative team
  • Initiative: willingness to take risks

Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment
  • Travel by car or plane with overnight stays
  • Work extended hours; sit for extended periods
