Cross-Functional Representative
As a Cross-Functional Representative, you'll provide general customer service, checking on the front end, and work across multiple departments in packaging, stocking, rotation, production, and sanitation duties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing excellent customer service
- Answering customer questions regarding products
- Taking orders
- Assisting with product selection
- Using suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and build department sales
- Making regular product announcements to inform customers
- Working a flexible schedule to accommodate shifts of different departments
- Performing duties in multiple departments, including technical or perishable areas such as bakery, floral, market, etc.
- Stocking and replenishment, product returns and rotation, product selection, service support, inventory accuracy, and additional duties across the total store in multiple departments
- Building, stocking, and maintaining displays and fixtures
- Assisting with inventory control; loading, unloading, and moving product
- Slicing, packaging, labeling, rotating, merchandising, culling, and pricing product
- Gaining knowledge of multiple departments and applying understanding of processes/policies
- Complying with store and department SOPs, policies, and applicable laws
- Working as a checker when not performing cross-functional duties
- Ensuring compliance with departmental/store SOPs for food safety and sanitation
- Properly operating and maintaining all equipment
- Cleaning/sanitizing sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment.
Qualifications and key requirements include:
- Being 18+ years old
- Having 6+ months of experience in H-E-B store operations
- Knowledge of computer systems (Symbol, ACR, label machine)
- Customer service and interpersonal skills
- Verbal/written communication and reading skills
- Ability to adapt to performing a wide range of duties across multiple departments
- Ability to work autonomously
- A high school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Licenses/certifications include completion of company orientation and safety training.
Physical demands and working conditions include:
Functioning in a fast-paced, retail environment, requiring detailed and precise tasks. You will work with customers, staying attentive to their needs, and work flexible schedules to accommodate differing department shifts.
Department-specific physical requirements:
- Bakery: Ability to lift 50 lbs, manage in excess of 70 lbs.
- Dairy / Frozen / Grocery / Market: Ability to lift 40-60 lbs, manage in excess of 75-85 lbs.
- Deli: Ability to lift 55 lbs, manage in excess of 65 lbs.
- Cosmetics / Drugstore / General Merchandise: Ability to lift 15-50 lbs, manage in excess of 15-45 lbs.
- Floral: Ability to lift 55 lbs, manage in excess of 45 lbs.
- Gas Station: Ability to lift 40 lbs, manage in excess of 40 lbs.
- Produce: Ability to lift 60 lbs, manage in excess of 75 lbs.
- Seafood: Ability to lift 50 lbs, manage in excess of 25 lbs.
- Service: Ability to lift 50 lbs, manage in excess of 30 lbs.
- Shelf Edge: Ability to lift 50 lbs, manage in excess of 65 lbs.
While there may be exceptions, the measurements noted are generally defined as:
- Constantly: 5.5+ hours per 8-hour day
- Frequently: 2.5 - 5.5 hours per 8-hour day
- Occasionally: 0 - 2.5 hours per 8-hour day.
