Uber Eats couriers are independent contractors, and the entire activation process is completed online through the Uber Driver app. Requirements vary by city, but the steps below represent the most common U.S. experience.

Sign up in the Uber Driver app or on the Uber website
Start by creating an account and selecting "Delivery" as your way to earn. You can choose to deliver with: * Your car * Your scooter * Your bicycle (availability varies by city)
Upload required documents (reviewed in ~24 hours)
Required documents depend on your delivery mode: If delivering by car or scooter: * Valid driver's license * Vehicle registration * Proof of auto insurance * Vehicle photo If delivering by bicycle: * Valid government ID * Selfie/photo for identity verification Uber states that documents are usually reviewed within 24 hours.
Vehicle or equipment eligibility
Vehicle requirements differ by city, but typically include: Car delivery requirements: * 2 or 4-door vehicle * Meets local model year rules * Valid registration and insurance Scooter delivery requirements: * 50cc–150cc engine (varies by state) * Must meet local scooter regulations Bicycle delivery requirements: * Any working bicycle * Safe for road use Many cities do NOT require an inspection for food delivery vehicles.
Background check

Activation
Once your documents and background check are approved, your account is activated and you can immediately start accepting Uber Eats delivery orders in the Driver app. There is no interview, no orientation, and no training class.
