Primary Duties

  • Testing Primary (Friday into Saturday)
  • Vacation Relief
  • Lab Maintenance and Support
  • Pilot Samples
  • Calibration
  • Equipment Maintenance Schedule
  • Water Testing (Facility/Filler/Finished Product 7 - day)
  • Environmental Testing: Air, Air Blow, Surface Swabs
  • Container Testing
  • Rennet Dispensing
  • Data Entry
  • Sample Staging (FMMA, Water)
  • Return Lab Shipments
  • Internal Audits/Inspections
  • Lab Inventory Clerk/Receiver
  • Sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results
  • Ensuring that daily records are well kept and maintained.
  • Data entry and tracking
  • Performing internal audits
  • Following hold procedures for products that do not meet specifications
  • Equipment calibration and troubleshooting
  • Participate in preparation for all inspections
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Participate in driving continuous improvement.

Full Job Description

Graveyard QA Lab Tech
The Supply Chain Department has an opening for a Graveyard QA Lab Tech. This position is located in Bellevue, Washington.
Shift: 4 x 10hrs, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 6pm to 4:30am
Competitive Wages: The pay range is $26.12 to $34.82 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (between 7-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).

  • Must possess the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's)
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary to meet operation and business needs
  • Equipment calibration and troubleshooting
  • Participate in preparation for all inspections
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Participate in driving continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (Food Science, Biology, Microbiology or related science) or equivalent experience preferred
  • Ensure Safeway policies, procedures, and workplace safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Performance of lab testing procedures as required. This includes Microbial plating, Component Analysis, Environmental Swabbing, and more
  • Inspect Equipment and Plant Areas to ensure sanitation and regulatory compliance standards are being met
  • Ability to perform sensory analysis on milk and other products produced at the plant
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Extremely attentive to detail
  • Can work alone as well as with a team
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills - Know when to report issues to management based on test results
  • Excellent Documentation Skills
  • Good oral/written communication skills
  • Able to multi-task in fast paced environment with limited supervision
  • Proficient in Window based PC programs
  • Knowledge of HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices, & Good Sanitation Practices
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Need good time management skills to balance everyday workload with additional assignments/projects
