Sr Software Engineer - Incentives Platform

Uber is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Incentive Platform team. This team works at the core of Uber's marketplace, ensuring that drivers and couriers are incentivized to stay engaged on the platform.

Generating and delivering the right incentives is one of Uber's most complex engineering challenges, requiring a sophisticated orchestration between dynamic marketplace signals and a seamless driver experience.

The platform requires expertise in high-scale distributed processing, micro-services, and machine learning infrastructure. As a Senior Engineer, you'll play a key role in evolving our systems, driving efficiency, and pioneering Uber's next-generation ML-powered incentive ecosystem. This is a rare opportunity to own a business-critical domain with massive global impact.

Some of the problems you'll be working on include:

• Scaling a Global Incentive Engine: Architect and operate a high-throughput platform that powers millions of incentives across thousands of cities in real-time.
• Extensible Architecture: Build modular, extensible systems that allow our incentive mechanisms to evolve. You'll ensure our architecture stays ahead of the curve as we expand our range of personalized and contextually relevant products.
• ML-Integrated Backends: Build the infrastructure that makes our algorithms effective. You'll create robust workflows for ML inference and optimization, directly influencing how incentives are generated and delivered at Uber scale.

What the Candidate Will Do:

• Development and scaling of a global platform that drives motivation and retention for Uber's massive earner base
• Design modular systems that accelerate product innovation without rework
• Optimize for fairness, efficiency, and marketplace health at global scale
• Collaborate across product, infra, and ML teams to deliver business-critical impact

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience driving the full software development lifecycle - from initial requirement gathering and system design to global deployment and post-launch monitoring and optimization as an individual contributor.
• Strong coding fundamentals in modern languages such as Go, Java, or C++.
• Fast and passionate learner. Strong collaboration, documentation and communication skills.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$202,000 per year - USD$224,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$202,000 per year - USD$224,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
