About the RoleRider engineering team develops Uber's flagship rider app and powers hundreds of features across all our product vertical teams. This is an opportunity for a technical leader and strong collaborator who can work with talented people in product, design, data science, operations, and engineering to help build our next-generation consumer experience products. It's a high impact role where you will interface with major product & platform teams at Uber.

You'll be leaned on to strategically align the team's charter and vision while also managing the execution of the team. In this role you'll get to wear multiple hats in thinking through operations, product requirements, and build the right capabilities abstracting the common patterns when working on problems.

As an Engineering Manager you'll build and lead teams powering the core experience and drive positive impact for our riders and for the business. The role requires strong communication, leadership and technical chops.

What You'll DoLead, manage and grow a team of customer-focused software engineers in delivering and maintaining features that impact millions of Uber riders

Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team, and continuously improve software engineering practices

Set up the right processes to ensure the team follows best engineering practices

Own the craftsmanship, reliability, and scalability of your solutions

Bring a passion to stay on top of industry trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal and external technical communities

Encourage innovation, implementation of ground breaking technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, and self-organization

Collaborate with and across teams to design, build, and ship great experiences for our customers

Prioritize stories, features and bugs to deliver the most value to users quickly.

Basic QualificationsProven track record of coaching and growing engineers.

  • Preferred QualificationsStrong understanding of technical architecture, system design, and problem solving acuity for sophisticated technical challenges
  • Proven experience in directly managing high-performing engineering teams, leveraging tech leads and senior engineers effectively with clear project plans and timelines.

A passion for building exceptional user-facing products and experiences, with extensive experience designing and operating mission-critical, high-scale systems.

Holds a consistently high bar for quality across the board - for your own contributions, for the people you work with, and for the products you work on.

Deep understanding of full-stack software development with experience leading both backend and mobile engineers.

  • Ability to align cross-functional partners and drive consensus across multiple engineering organizations.
  • Strong at making data-driven prioritization decisions and proactively driving solutions when challenges surface.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a genuine personal investment in the success of the product and the team.

    For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year

  • USD$258,000 per year.
  • For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year

  • USD$258,000 per year.
  • For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
