About the Role
The Experimentation team provides cutting edge tooling and methodologies for all teams at Uber to make rapid decisions for their product iterations. Experimentation is an exciting domain that combines multiple disciplines of Software Engineering (Backend, Distributed Systems, Mobile, Web, Data Infra), Data Science, and Product Design.
Every major launch across any of Uber's Rides, Delivery, Earner, Freight, and Uber For Business (U4B) organizations leverages the Experimentation platform to determine how new features impact key business metrics. Virtually all Engineers, Scientists, and Product Managers at the company use our platform on a daily basis to launch, monitor, test, and make changes to Uber's ecosystem.
What We're Looking For
We are looking to hire an engineering lead for the Measurements & Optimizations org. This newly formed area will be responsible for automating the most common workflows used by 1000s of engineers, scientists, and PMs at Uber on a daily basis by leveraging AI to improve velocity of product innovations at Uber. The team will also be responsible for architecting and delivering new Optimizations focused products (e.g. Parameter Tuning, Multi-Arm Bandits, or equivalent) for both our AB and Marketplace Experimentation (MX) charters which will allow teams to optimize their product launches to maximize business impact. Lastly, we are exploring the development of new tooling to assist Ops & Finance teams to optimize their budget allocation spend to maximize long-term revenue (Gross Bookings) outcomes.
Impact
Resource Saving: Save ~30 Eng and Science yrs of wasted Eng and Science effort related to XPs annually.
Team Velocity: 3 weeks reduced time-to-production for XPs (average).
Optimizations Product: $50M/year through optimized product experiences; 2% increase in global trips.
What You'll Do
Grow, mentor, and develop teams of skilled software engineers and engineering managers within Measurement & Optimizations org
Recruit high quality engineering talent for the team as needed
Establish relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders across Uber to further the team goals
Own the definition, execution, and delivery of KPIs for your teams
Uphold a high bar for engineering excellence and platform reliability
Define the processes and systems within the team to positively shape engineering culture
Help define the roadmap and vision for Experimentation
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in an engineering related bootcamp

In general, we're looking for someone who is conversant in data science or statistics with a track record of building multi-disciplinary teams that ship at high scale.
BS/MS/PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
A background in applied statistics with experience building systems at the boundary between data science and engineering
Experience shipping high scale systems

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$267,000 per year
